Boo-tiful BNA

Thursday, November 10, 2016

Dashing through the doors as the rainfall intensified….

Once inside I gazed at my surroundings. A giant Michelin man statue hung on the spider web and Halloween-esc decor, I knew this was going to be a great experience.

Appropriately named after the location, the building was originally constructed for the British North American Tobacco Company.

This rustic, old-timey spot holds not only an amazing appeal but luscious full-flavored menu!!

Their chicken wings?

Hot damn, they were juicy, meaty and marinated in an unbelievable sauce.

Their fish tacos?

With their perfectly punchy seafood flavoring these bite sized delights well… delighted

To finish off the trio of delicacies?

Heated, crunchy & yummy Spicy Prawns!

The spitting putter of the rain ran down my face as the evening drew to a close.

Sometimes it’s the little finds where magic begins!

Kangaroo Zoo

In the heart of Winfield lies a captivating experience! If you know anything about mwah it’s that I am obsessed with animals. In Calgary I was a very proud holder of a Zoo pass and visited whenever I could. One of my biggest sadness’s when I relocated was that there was no zoo here. I was very excited to find out that there is in fact an amazing substitute, Kangaroo Creek Farms!

Not only was my long time best friend out to visit but now we would get to visit for the first together!

We got up early and started the day right… with breakfast at IHop! Also a first for us both.
Bellies full we headed to Winfield and to our next adventure!

The sun was already beating its heat at 11 when we strolled down into the farm (but only after missing the turn a few times) ;-P

Kangaroo Creek Farms was such a uniquely, interesting experience to say the least. Who would have known? Kangaroos in the heart of the Okanagan! Why it’s almost better than a zoo? You get to feed and pet the animals!

As we strolled in our eyes widened a giant field with buildings, a watering hole and lots of kangaroos! The enclosure is filled with wallaby’s, large kangaroos and my favorite… albino kangaroos!

The keepers provided us with the food and we calmly approached the animals, say what you will but even though they a docile when you are next to an animal whom you know is so powerful… you tread lightly.

As their fuzzy faces ate from our palms, I laughed at the unique feeling of their teeth lightly touching at times. I learned that kangaroos love corn chips and that feeding them to them is quite the event.

After you exit the large enclosure you can scamper over to a happy looking man holding tiny creatures.

In and out of their sewn pouches Sugar Gliders are such fascinating creatures! This little guy in particular gazed widely as I lightly pet his little head with my other hand.

After that a most exciting opportunity, holding a baby kangaroo! With the luck of the lineup, I even got to hold an albino one!

Like a baby the little guy was handed to me in a bundle, his little red eyes peering up at meet. My heart felt warm holding such a sweet calm creature, if not work the gaining line up I could have sat there forever. Handing him over, we continued on to the final enclosure.

I always thought that capybaras were small but boy was I mistaken. These animals are like giant skittish hamsters! Very cool. We also pet and fed some mini goats, fancy chickens and ducks.

Definitely all made for an amazing memory!

Stay-In To-Go

Thursday, October 6, 2016

There is nothing like when you find a place that delivers good chinese food. No feeling matches that of finding the place that you know you can count on for your comfy and lazy… Those No-one-wants-to-cook-days.

It arrives within the given time parameter.

It’s hot and fresh and not too greasy.

Your order comes correctly, your driver with a smile. The beginning of a beautiful relationship.

This weekend I found my new go-to stay-in food. The wonderful business that will receive the call to bring forth the delicious salty goodness when my taste buds crave.

Chinese must be shared, it’s really a family meal or at very least close friends.

You take out each entree and open it, if it’s friends visiting you place a spoon in each container. Family you share cooties & just use your own forks.

This weekend the delivery was on point.

I had previous taken a to go box from a place I randomly found whilst walking. I found out they delivered and was not disappointed! The beef chop suey had all the veggies we actually like! The beef perfectly season. The deep fried shrimp crunched perfectly. My favorite dish from this place  is their pork & shrimp dumplings, they are amazing! Chow mein is a must and I hate when it’s slime but theirs is perfect! Sweet and sour pork allayed with pineapple mmm I’m making myself hungry all over again.

Another key to the perfect chinese experience is their spring rolls. They must be super crunchy with a bold distinct mixture of spices & veggies inside.

When the feast is complete all participants should be holding their stomach in glorious fullness.

Ah yes a great chinese delivery can begin a beautiful evening.

Magic Mushroom Swiss

After a glorious morning of plus 30, the sun dazing across my face you can imagine my surprise at the pouring rain as I left my appointment to meet up with my adventure partner.

Our plan? Ice cream and a walk by the waterway followed by a trip back to Peachland to indulge in these amazing burgers I’d been raving about since last year.

Our reality? We decided to try the newest in the Bliss Café locations in Kelowna! I must say we were pleasantly surprised! This café is defiantly a fantastic spot to stop, their large variety of seating and pleasing esthetic really impressed me. They have all the fantastic classics as the other locations I’ve been to and the staff were super friendly.

After a quick game of magic, my foodie friend and I were off to The Waterfront Grille & Pizzeria to fill ourselves with the burgers of (at least my) dreams!

Now I cannot express to you how much I’d been hyping up these burgers! A few thoughts popped into my noggin: What if I was just hungry last time I had one? Maybe they aren’t so great? Are they even still on the menu?

As the waiter came to the table baring the giant plates all worry faded.

My nose was intoxicated with the delightful smells of the dish being placed before me.

In all its glory the Mushroom Swiss Burger at The Waterfront Grille & Pizzeria is possibly my favorite burger. Heaping in mushrooms, oozing in Swiss cheese and seared in spices the homemade patty rocks your taste buds! *cues salivating* All paired together with fresh crisps fries and friendly service, my memory certainly didn’t disappoint.

What started as a rained out adventure blossomed into savory reality.

The rolls arrived perfectly plated. Now picture this… deep fried cheese encrusted California rolls! The delicious crazy roll certainly lived up to it’s name. Shortly after yam tempura roll topped with crab meat, avocado, mango, pineapple & tomatoes. Delicious!

Next arrival was the crispy perfectly doughed prawn and veggie tempura crunching as I munched the heavenly bits. Adjoined by the arrival of the gyoza which was perfectly handmade and full of flavor.

To finish off the meal and my stomach the arrival of the stir fried vegetables with egg noodle topped and toppled by enticing rich teriyaki beef. A side of rice for mixing with as yum!

Stuffed to the top and bursting over, it certainly was a delightful adventure!

Tummies grumbling we found ourselves at a cute little eatery in the heart of Kelowna.FSH is an adorable pub style spot and the first stop on our Friday adventure!

After locating the perfect sunny warmth to quietness spot on the patio we lifted the menus diving into the diversity of offerings. We promptly came to a decisions , we’d indulge in the asian steak bites & the charcuterie plate for the table.

Morning Glory

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Do you ever have one of those mornings?
Do you ever think it’s going to be one of those mornings & you’re completely wrong?!

To the cutest little cafe that made my morning last Wednesday you have officially found your newest regular!

I am an avid London Fog drinker & Calgary I hate to insult my home base but since moving to BC I’ve realized ours suck! Not only do half the cafes not make them but many don’t know what they are. Herr not only are they very available, piping hot & delicious but they have sugar free! Yay. Since the surgery sugars on the no list so anywhere I can sneak in a sweet sugar free treat, I’m game 🙂

This particular morning by the time I got to my newly found delight I was famished & flustered! I had only a few minutes to grab to go. I asked if they had wraps, could they do blt’s? Yes & yes. Then the test: Did they have avacado to add? Yes!

Wrapped up nicely, hot, giant tea in hand I was out the door.

With enough time to scarf half the creation I was pleasantly surprised. This wrap was amazing, piled high with crispy bacon, the avacado perfectly spread with lush lettuce and tomato to boot!

Full of the fixings to begin a wonderful day
